Pearson Edexcel GCE A-Level / International Advanced Level (IAL)
What is the Pearson Edexcel GCE A-Level / International Advanced Level (IAL)?
The Insworld GCE A-Level / IAL programme is an 18-22-month programme designed to prepare students for GCE A-Level / IAL examinations administered by Pearson Edexcel, a fully accredited UK Examination Board, and Awarding Body. Because Insworld is flexible in its enrolment dates, delivery of programmes and exam dates, exceptional students may be able to complete the programme in a shorter time.
A-Level is the UK standard pre-university qualification. A-Levels are recognised by universities worldwide as valid indicators of academic achievement and potential.
Students usually take three or four subjects at A-Level, depending on their future plans and what they wish to study at university.
Pearson Edexcel IAL programmes are modular. This allows the delivery of the course content and the timing of examinations to be more flexible and to be adapted to suit the needs of the student.
Each IAL subject is divided into discrete units (modules) that are examined and marked separately. Students may take exams in January and/or May/June each year. The final grade is based on the aggregate of the marks achieved in all the different modules.
Modular exams have many advantages for students. Students can delay taking an exam if they feel they need more time, and can re-take exams in specific modules at any exam session. Only the best mark achieved in each module will count towards their final grade. In addition, the burden and pressure of exams are spread out over the duration of the programme, which can help students to focus on specific learning outcomes and assessment goals. Students are also able to assess their progress by looking at real exam results.
